Biography
Nina Hyatt was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Having
spent much of her youth in the great outdoors, hiking, skiing and
backpacking in the Sierras and in Mendocino County, she developed a
deep love and appreciation for the beauty of the area where she grew
up. After graduating form University of Oregon with a Bachelor's Degree
in Anthropology and a Minor in Fine Arts, she worked on numerous
archeological projects as an illustrator, which took her from
Thailand's Isaan Province, to the Nevada Desert, to the Colorado
Plateau. While working in New Mexico, she became interested in
pursuing a Master's Degree in Multicultural Education from the
University of New Mexico, and became a teacher, where she finds the
fulfillment of sharing her love of learning with kids. Nina
now lives, paints and gardens in the Santa Cruz Mountains with
her husband and two dogs.
Artist Statement
All of my current paintings are worked in acrylic from my own
photographs. I carry my camera just about everywhere with me, and seek
inspiration around every corner. While most of my paintings
are landscapes of this incredible region, I like to challenge myself
with new subjects and look forward to painting still lives and
portraits, in addition to the cityscapes I am currently working on. My
greatest challenge and satisfaction comes from the process
of gaining the skill to be able to capture and simply share a moment I
found visually inspiring. If you enjoy my paintings, then I am doubly pleased!
